Since your body uses a lot of energy, you need to consume food on a regular basis. If you don’t eat for a long period of time, then you will end up feeling hungry. However, if you experience hunger even after eating on a regular basis, then there could be more that could be going on with you.

If you are hungry all the time, then you could be suffering from Polyphagia. This is extreme hunger and it’s not normal. You will need to consult with your doctor about this issue.

Diabetes

The food that you consume is usually broken down into glucose. If you are suffering from diabetes, this glucose that’s broken down will not be able to get to your cells. What happens is that the glucose will be eliminated from your body through urine. This then sends a message to your brain that you are hungry.

If you have type 1 diabetes, you might lose a lot of weight even though you eat a lot.

Other symptoms that you might experience include:

  • Frequent urination
  • Feeling thirsty most of the time
  • Fatigue
  • Cuts and bruises taking longer than normal to heal
  • Blurred vision
  • Tingling on your hands and feet

Low Blood Sugar

You might experience low blood sugar if you have diabetes, kidney problems, hepatitis, and problems with your pituitary or adrenal glands.

Symptoms of low blood sugar include:

  • Shaking
  • Burning sensation around the mouth
  • Sweating
  • Feeling anxious
  • Feeling like your heart just skipped a beat
  • Ashen skin

Lack of Sleep

Lack of sleep can mess up the hormones in your body that let you know whether you are hungry or full. Therefore, if you are constantly not getting enough sleep, you could end up eating a lot and having an unstable appetite. Usually, when feeling fatigued, you will want to eat high-fat foods.

Symptoms of lack of sleep include:

  • Mood swings
  • Not being able to stay alert
  • Clumsiness
  • Unable to stay away during daytimes
  • More accidents

Stress

When you are stressed out, your body produces cortisol. This hormone can make you feel hungry when released into the body. Most people who are stressed out usually want to consume fatty foods or foods high in sugar.

Other symptoms of stress include:

  • Losing your temper very often
  • Being unable to sleep
  • Discomfort in your tummy
  • Headaches
  • Fatigue

Your Diet

Foods that are rich in protein will help you feel fuller for longer. This includes foods that have animal protein, such as fillet, beef, and dairy products. Foods that are high in fiber will also make you feel full. You can find fiber in most fruits and vegetables.

Most processed foods are usually high in sugar and carbs. However, they might not be healthy, making you feel hungry as soon as you eat them. And since they don’t fill you up fast, you could end up eating more than you should.

Other signs that you are eating the wrong foods include:

  • Passing small hard faces
  • Feeling pain in your tummy
  • Being constipated

Medication

Some medicines can cause an increase in appetite. This includes antidepressants, antihistamines, steroids, drugs used to treat psychosis and steroids.

If you notice weight gain after you have started taking certain medications, this could be what’s causing your problem. Make sure to talk about this with your doctor to see if they can prescribe an alternative medication.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy makes many future mothers have a huge appetite. Most women start gaining weight during the first trimester, and this will continue until the last trimester.

Pregnancy signs include:

  • Missing your periods
  • Constantly having to pee
  • Bigger breasts
  • Nausea

Thyroid

Your thyroid is a gland that’s located on your neck. It controls how fast your body organs work. If you have hyperthyroidism, then your thyroid is working too fast.

Signs of thyroid problems:

  • Enlarged thyroid
  • Feeling week in the muscles
  • Anxiety
  • Constantly feeling thirsty even after drinking water
  • Fast pulse

Diet Soda

Most people prefer diet sodas that have no sugar. However, these drinks have been laced with fake sugar. This sugar makes your body believe that it’s going to get more calories to use. When this doesn’t happen, then you will start feeling hungry.

Signs of diet soda issues:

  • Weight gain
  • Craving sugar all the time
  • Headaches
